The A59 is an important traffic artery in the Ruhr area. Demolition and reconstruction work therefore needed to be carried out while maintaining the flow of road traffic.
As part of the widening of the A59 motorway from 4 to 6 lanes, extensive demolition and deconstruction work was initially carried out, e.g. demolition of old retaining walls and bridge structures and demolition of a road tunnel.
The lanes then required widening from 4 to 6 lanes over a length of approx. 1.1 km. Over 850 m of retaining walls and more than 230 m of new noise barriers required building. The construction of two footpath and cycle path bridges as well as a road bridge was also required. In addition, two traffic sign booms were built in the course of the project.
